The science

291 microbes, and the peer-reviewed research behind them.

Biome Makers' DNA sequencing found 291 species of bacteria and fungi in Elm Dirt's biologicals. This library profiles the ones with a published record against soil contaminants, one species to a page, with citations.

18 species profiled so far

Each profile follows one rule: a species is described as documented to break down, transform or bind a contaminant only when a peer-reviewed study says so, and that study is cited. The list runs 14 bacteria and 4 fungi. Pick a contaminant to narrow it.

What sequencing tells you

It shows which organisms are in the product, and how many cells of each.

What it can't tell you

It can't tell you how fast those organisms will act on a contaminant in a particular soil, which takes a field test with lab measurements before and after, which is how every project we run is set up.

How we use the research

Questions about a species or a study?

Ask us, and we'll send the paper and tell you plainly how much weight it can carry for your site.

Vik is the first call for agencies, consultants, landowners and applicators, and he brings in the science and manufacturing side when a site needs it.

It helps to send the site location, what happened there, and any lab reports or maps.
